CE MARKING

CONFABIT offers its members a user-friendly CE marking system for gates and doors, designed by craftsmen and based on laboratory tests already carried out by a third-party notified body, T2i, formerly Treviso Tecnologie. This system, called SHARING ITT, allows manufacturers to use shared test results, freeing them from having to conduct their own laboratory tests, saving both time and money.

CONFABIT also provides support for CE marking of steel structures, thanks to its collaboration with Rina Services S.p.A.

Our CE marking services fall into two main categories: CE marking for gates and doors (according to UNI EN 13241-1) and CE marking for steel structures (according to UNI EN 1090-1).

CE MARKING FOR GATES AND DOORS

CONFABIT’s CE marking system for gates and doors is offered in collaboration with T2i and includes:
  • A training course covering technical and production aspects of CE marking and the CONFABIT method
  • A customized Factory Production Control (FPC) plan tailored for artisans, as required by regulations
  • Access to shared Initial Type Testing (ITT) results for standard product families, conducted by a notified testing body, in accordance with the SHARING system under CPR 305/2011
  • Support from a structural engineer for design calculations and assistance with non-standard products under CE marking system 4
  • Provision of the Declaration of Performance (DoP), installation and maintenance manuals, product identification plate, warranty, and maintenance contract information
  • Dimensional guidelines for columns and foundations for swing and sliding gates
  • Accessory sizing charts for swing and sliding gates
  • Basic phone support and access to the CONFABIT member area for document management

CE MARKING FOR STEEL STRUCTURES

CONFABIT’s support for CE marking of steel structures, in collaboration with Rina Services S.p.A., includes:
  • A customized Factory Production Control (FPC) plan tailored for artisans, as required by regulations
  • Support from EWT-qualified technicians to assess testing needs, train welding staff, assist in preparing samples, and be present during inspections by the notified body
  • Ongoing welding coordination until certification is obtained, if the company is not yet certified
  • Organization of training courses for welding coordinators in partnership with Rina Services S.p.A.
  • Training for non-destructive testing (NDT), such as dye penetrant and visual inspection
  • Assistance via accredited labs for qualifying welding procedures in accordance with UNI EN ISO 15614-1:2012


According to the Construction Products Regulation or CPR (305/2011), which replaced the Construction Products Directive 89/106/EEC on July 1, 2013, CE marking represents the conclusion of a process of evaluations and verifications to guarantee the performance of a construction product, through testing or calculation procedures and production control.

CE marking is therefore linked to the product’s Declaration of Performance (DoP), certifying that the procedure of Verification of Constancy of Performance has been activated.

In short, if we have a product with CE marking, we know that a Declaration of Performance has been issued; the product has the performance and characteristics stated in the Declaration of Performance; the product complies with the essential safety requirements established by the application of one or more European directives.

All products intended to be permanently integrated into construction works fall under the Construction Products Regulation. The UNI EN 13241:2016 product standard applies to industrial, commercial, garage doors and gates, both manual and automated, and makes CE marking mandatory for these products as of May 5, 2005. This standard refers to other specific technical standards, such as the new UNI EN 12604:2017 standard for mechanical requirements and test methods (which combines the previous UNI EN 12604 and UNI EN 12065), and the new UNI EN 12453:2017 (which combines UNI EN 12445 and UNI EN 12453), and the Machinery Directive for automation systems.

It’s true, it is not mandatory. The legislation allows for alternative and less comprehensive systems, where verification by a notified body is not required. However, at CONFABIT, we believe in respecting the rules above all else. That’s why we don’t offer shortcuts or alternative methods to our members, but a CE marking system validated by a notified body, complete with all its components: to protect them and their work, in full compliance with the law.

Compared to standard EN 13241-1:2011, standard EN 13241:2016 also applies to manual pedestrian doors with leaves smaller than 6.25 m², and therefore also to pedestrian gates. This European standard does not apply to the following devices intended for other uses: sluice gates and barriers, elevator doors, vehicle doors, armored doors, doors primarily used for animal containment, horizontally sliding motorized doors designed primarily for pedestrian use in compliance with EN 16361, revolving doors of any size, railway barriers, and barriers used exclusively for vehicles.

The preliminary technical sheet, the summary of the Factory Production Control Plan, and the inspection report must be archived for at least 10 years.

The blacksmith must provide the Declaration of Performance (DoP), the use and maintenance manual for the mechanical part, and the label for manually operated gates and doors (according to the scheme provided by the UNI EN 13241-1 standard).

It is necessary to prepare and implement a Factory Production Control Plan (FPC), based on the relevant technical standard. This plan must then be periodically evaluated and verified by a third-party notified body authorized to operate within the framework of CPR 305/2011, with specific reference to standard CE UNI EN 1090-1. Other basic requirements set by the standard include the qualification of welding processes and operators (WPQR, WPQ) and the validation of fabrication methods (cutting, forming, drilling).
